Where Science Meets Soul Care
At NYU Skin Studio, we’re not about copying trends. We’re about creating treatments and routines that make sense for all skin tones, all concerns, and all stories. That’s why our philosophy is built on both the innovation of Korean science and the richness of African botanicals — because skin deserves both the future and the past. Whether you're treating hyperpigmentation, rosacea, dullness, or scarring, our approach is inclusive, informed, and always rooted in results, not fluff.
Your skin’s story matters. We’re just here to help you write the next chapter.
The Science of Korean Skincare: Rooted in Ritual, Refined by Innovation.
Korean skincare has earned its reputation worldwide for a reason — it’s one of the most advanced, thoughtful, and barrier-first skincare philosophies out there. Rooted in centuries-old self-care rituals, Korean beauty has evolved from traditional remedies that utilise natural ingredients like fermented rice water, ginseng, mugwort, and green tea, all known for their skin-nourishing and antioxidant properties. Over time, these rituals have been refined by cutting-edge cosmetic science, with Korea leading the way in innovation.
Today, it’s not just about the famous "10-step routine" — it’s about respecting your skin. Korean formulations are known for being lightweight, hydrating, and layered, with actives that support rather than strip. Ingredients like Centella Asiatica (cica), a healing herb used for centuries in East Asia, are known for their calming effect on inflammation and support of wound healing, making them ideal for sensitive skin or rosacea. Niacinamide helps fade hyperpigmentation and regulate oil without drying, while liquorice root extract and glutathione are brightening powerhouses that gently even skin tone over time. Korean skincare doesn’t force results — it encourages long-term skin health. That’s why at NYU, our use of Korean cold peels, essences, and ampoules is intentional — designed to work in harmony with skin, not against it.
African Botanicals: Underrated, Underestimated, and Unapologetically Powerful
The African continent has a rich and deeply rooted skincare heritage that is often overlooked by the mainstream industry. But botanical skincare didn’t start with serums in labs — it began with ancestral knowledge, community rituals, and a deep connection to the land. At NYU, we’re not just interested in what works; we care about where it came from. Ingredients like Qasil, Baobab oil, Marula, and Kigelia Africana are not just trending — African women have trusted them for centuries.
Qasil, in particular, is one of our heroes. Made from the finely ground leaves of the gob tree in Somalia, it has been used for generations by East African women as a gentle cleanser, mask, and exfoliant — rich in saponins, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties. It naturally detoxifies, brightens, and calms the skin without disturbing the moisture barrier, making it ideal for melanin-rich skin, hyperpigmentation, and even hormonal breakouts. Likewise, Baobab oil, often referred to as the "Tree of Life" oil, is rich in omega fatty acids, making it incredibly nourishing for dry or ageing skin. Kigelia, known for its firming and anti-bacterial benefits, is great for acne-prone or dull complexions.
African skincare traditions prioritise wellness and skin harmony, much like their Korean counterparts, but often without the shine of marketing. At NYU, we blend these traditions with intention and respect, choosing ingredients not because they’re “exotic,” but because they work. We don’t chase gimmicks. We utilise what has proven effective in culture and in results.
